Course Description:

The 4-hour NYC-DOB Scaffold User course is designed for workers who use supported scaffolds of any height, including single frames, rolling towers, baker scaffolds, and stair towers under 40 feet. Updated with the latest NYC-DOB guidelines, the training covers important safety topics such as fall prevention, electrical hazards, preventing falling objects, scaffold inspection and loading, Chapter 33 building regulations, and the proper use of personal fall arrest systems. The course also includes hands-on demonstrations on the correct use of full-body harnesses. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a picture ID card valid for 4 years.

CEU Requirements

  • 100% attendance for the course

  • Completion of Continuing Education and Training Registration Form

  • Active participation in all class exercises (determined by course instructor)

  • Completion of required pre-and post-quiz assessment

  • As applicable, achievement of minimum passing score on required end-of-course examination

  • Participation and submittal of end-of-course evaluation form (must provide name on form to receive credit)

Audience:

Any individual who needs to use or work on a Supported Scaffold in New York City.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
 

  • List supported scaffold types and its major components

  • Identify the most common supported scaffold safety hazards

  • Protect themselves from supported scaffold safety hazards

  • Outline New York City Building Code supported scaffold safety requirements

  • Inspect supported scaffolds in accordance with federal and local safety regulations

Methods of Instruction:

A combination of lectures, PowerPoint presentations, open discussions, and testing will be used throughout the course.

Prerequisites:

There are no prerequisites needed to attend this course. Students must be able to verbally communicate with instructor in primary language of the training.

Successful Completion:

In order to receive a certificate/card for the course, students must:

  • Be able to clearly communicate with the instructor and complete all paperwork in the language the course is delivered. No personal interpreters permitted. 

  • Complete all required paperwork: registration, evaluation, attendance, etc.

  • Attend all required hours of the course. Any make up sessions must be completed within six months from the course start date.

  • Participate during class activities and reviews.

  • Complete tests with a passing grade of 70%.

 

Training Requirements for 8 Hour Supported Scaffold Installer/Remover Refresher

Training Requirements for 4 Hour Supported Scaffold User & Refresher Course
As per Local Law 52 of 2005, this course is required for workers using supported scaffolds on construction sites in New York City. This training is required every 4 years.

 

Attendance Policy: 

Students are required to complete 100% of the course and actively participate in all learning activities. Make-up time is not permitted for this training course.
